Market Basket's bagels don't suck - they're a little light on the toppings for my taste, and you need to make sure you pick up the ones advertised as "New York Style," which I thought was a marketing gimmick but which, after some research, I learned was a legitimate thing - New York bagels are boiled, then baked, and the stuff you get up here is steamed because it's cheaper. There are others, mostly little indie places, but Market Basket's are reliably not-sucky, and usually pretty cheap.

I'm not suggesting FREEZING the tomatoes anywhere close to 40 degrees, just chucking them in the freezer for a few minutes while you're prepping the rest of the sandwich. It makes them easier to slice, and the temperature difference between it and the hot bacon is immensely satisfying to me.

It tastes delicious, obviously. It gets kind of crispy (depending on the size of the cubes) but stays kind of chewy. We always cut ours into itty-bitty cubes...so good on butter fried potatoes.

Ah, see, this sauce isn't designed to be flexible, I have a different one for that which works for pizza, spaghettis, chicken parm subs and the like. This one is specifically for pasta because it doesn't have to be spreadable, subtle, or supportive, it's the main act.

I like the idea of yours, though. I might give that a try next time I have too much pasta in the cupboard.

Hm. That's an interesting take on it; the problem is, when you cook the biscuits IN the stew, it over-starches the broth leaving you with a bit more goo than you'd want. They also don't keep well, ended up with their bottom halves soggy and their top halves stale. Buttered bread would've worked better.

I used white mushrooms, and I wouldn't necessarily spend too much money on anything more expensive than that - they're spending too much time simmering in broth for their bodies to retain too much flavor of their own. Criminis might be a nice touch, but baby bellas feel like a waste of money.
